A tuba’s weight is partially determined by its size. The most popular tuba sizes are 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, and 6/4. The manufacturer determines how the lengths differ. While tuba sizes are consistent within a single firm, they are not invariable between businesses.

Tuba players’ instruments frequently weigh substantially less when they can’t play while sitting, like in marching bands. Some tubas used by drum corps only weigh 15 pounds.
